A Study of the book of Joshua

#1: Introduction and Background

The story of God’s faithfulness and how, by faith in God’s promises, God’s people

can overcome and experience His life-changing deliverance

# 2 “Be Strong and Courageous” -- Joshua 1:1-18

If we are to conquer the enemy  and claim our inheritance in Christ, we must have spiritual

strength and spiritual courage. “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might” (Eph. 6:10).

#3:  Preparing to Enter the Land  Joshua 2:1-24

Someone has said well that nature forms us, sin deforms us, prisons try to reform us, education

tries to inform us, but it is the power of Christ that can transform us. The God whom

we worship is the God of grace. No where is it more evident than in His Word. We see the grace

of God in action in the life of Rahab, a prostitute.

#4:  Crossing the Jordan Joshua 3:1-24

In the Christian life you’re either an overcomer or you’re overcome, a victor or a victim.

After all, God didn’t save us to make statues out of us and put us on exhibition. He saved us to

make soldiers out of us and move us forward by faith to claim our rich inheritance in Jesus Christ.

#5  Consecrating the People: Our Changeless Lord’s Instructions on how to use Teachable Moments Joshua 4:1-24

When we are filled with doubt and discouragement, when we don't think God is answering anymore,

when we feel the heavens are brass we need to have memorial stones we can touch so that

we can remember, "Yes, these stones came from the middle of the overflowing river. We brought

them out of the river to remind us that God is faithful even in the most impossible situations."

#6 Preparing to Possess the Land Joshua 5

Before Israel was ready to face the enemy, they  needed a preparation of heart and

willingness to submit to God’s directions that they might experience His power. To ensure victory,

God took them through several events to instruct and prepare them for battle

#7 Destroying Fortresses: Triumph of Faith Joshua 5:13-6:27

Do you want to combat your Jericho and break down those walls that are in front of you?

Then stop trying to get God on your side and be sure to get on God’s side.

That is the way you are going to have the victory!

#8: Defeat at Ai and the Sin of Achan Joshua 7:1-26

Andrew Bonar: “Let us be as watchful after the victory as before the battle.” Because one soldier didn’t heed this warning, Israel’s next challenge in Canaan turned out to be a humiliating defeat.

#9 The Call to Battle Joshua 8:1-35

No matter what mistakes we may make, the worst mistake of all is not to try again;

for “the victorious Christian life is a series of new beginnings” (Alexander Whyte).

#10 The Peril of Walking by Sight -- Joshua 9:1-27

Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), and human nature is such that many people

find it easier to tell lies than the truth. With tongue in cheek, the American political leader

Adlai Stevenson said, “A lie is an abomination unto the Lord—and a very present help in trouble.”

#11 God’s Final Victories/Possession of the Land  -- Joshua 10-12

#12 Joshua: A Great Life in Review
